Mechanic automation
Mechanic is a task automation platform for Shopify, built by Lightward. We write the tasks: event-driven, scheduled, and bulk.
What we build
Tasks range from a few lines that tag an order to multi-step scripts that reconcile records across systems. Every run is on the record: what triggered it, what it returned, and how long it took.
Event-driven tasks
Order, customer, inventory, and fulfillment events trigger work immediately: tagging, notifications, record creation, and escalations.
Scheduled tasks and reports
Recurring jobs that pull data, reconcile records, and send scheduled digests to the people who need them.
Bulk backfills
One-time passes over historical orders, customers, or products to clean up, enrich, or normalize existing data.
Integrations
Tasks that write to Airtable, Google Sheets and Drive, Slack, and FTP, hand off to Shopify Flow, and call any HTTP endpoint, moving data between Shopify and the rest of your stack.
Where Mechanic fits
Mechanic reaches further than most merchants expect: event handling, scheduled jobs, backfills, and cross-system integration all fit in a task script, with nothing to host. These are the questions we ask when deciding where a workflow belongs.
Mechanic is usually right when
- The trigger is a Shopify event, a schedule, or a manual run
- The work is Shopify data plus an action: tag, email, HTTP call, spreadsheet, or Slack post
- The merchant retunes tags, thresholds, and recipients through task options, without a code change
- You want it live quickly, often within a day or two
A custom app is usually right when
- You need a custom admin interface or embedded UI
- The customization surfaces in customer accounts or checkout
- The process needs a person each time: details and judgment calls a fixed task form cannot capture
Have an automation that keeps breaking?
Bring the task or the process. We will tell you whether it belongs in Mechanic or needs an app of its own.
